Catching Up

Thanksgiving we went to Portland and everyone in my immediate family was there! Pretty sure this has not happened since I was in high school. So this was a big deal! Brett and I were lucky enough to stay a week

Tuesday we went to Body Worlds with my sister and her husband. Brett was a little leery of walking around looking at dead bodies, but he ended up loving it. It was awesome and honestly, who wouldn't want to go see it!? I know I am a little weird in that regard, but it is just so dang interesting.  What made it even more awesome, is while we were in line to get tickets, a lady turned to us and gave us a free ticket! She said her roommate was a teacher and was not going to use it so she just needed to give it away. Score!
I went to one of the Body Worlds a few years ago with my mom and this one was similar but was focused more on the brain. It was interesting to see different brains and what can go wrong (kind of scary if you think about it). For example a few brains had a stroke and you were able to see where the hemorrhaging occurred, or there was a brain that had Alzheimer disease and it had shrunken in certain areas.
Afterwards we had to go to Voo Doo Donuts  because they are crazy and we needed an excuse to eat donuts. When we arrived, there was a wedding there. Yes you can get married in a donut shop in Portland. Does this surprise anyone?

We cut the dozen up into a million pieces so we could try every flavor they gave us. There was bubblegum, cocoa puff, fruit loop, Oreo, strawberries and cream and a bunch of other really random flavors.
This is the Voo Doo doll, that has a pretzel sticking out for the voo doo effect and red jelly that spurts out. A bit much?

For Thanksgiving I made all the girls in my family aprons including my niece Miss H. These aprons I had pinned on Pinterest a long time ago and I decided I needed to finally execute them. I had to kind of eyeball and make Miss H's up since I did not have measurements for her, but it fit!

Friday my sister and her family left for a funeral. Mom and I shopped a little bit, when on our way to Costco with Brett we got an urgent call from my dad. He had fallen down the stairs and was pretty sure he had broken something.

So we rushed home to find him on the couch with our neighbor grabbing him a bag of ice and some ibuprofen. He had been rushing and missed a step or something (he cannot recall what happened), but he fell from the seventh stair down into the wall below. The giant hole his head went through and the other hole his shoulder went through. It is kind of hard to see at the angle I took a picture of it and the stud happens to be right in between both places.

Needless to say our Friday was spent in Urgent care getting x-rays and pain medications. He fractured his clavicle i.e. broken collar bone e.g. no real treatment except a sling for the next while. We were worried he would have a concussion but he was okay and really fortunate to have barely missed the stud!

While in Portland Brett and I went on a day date, going to Benihana and then to watch Moneyball.
I haven't been to Benihana in forever and it was fun to watch our cook and laugh at his lame jokes.

It was so fun to go home. It felt like everyday we had ton to do so there was not much relaxing, but it was so good to be home. We are so grateful for having such good friends and family. What a memorable Thanksgiving we had!
