Headaches over a Hutch

When we were finishing school (aka during my boards) Brett's parents were in town one weekend, so they kindly took our china hutch to help us with our move. We had taken several trips up to drop off our belongings so that we didn't have to move as much during the final move. When we made our final move, we stayed at Brett's house to house sit while his parents were in Madagascar. Most of our belongings sat in the garage, and every time I passed through I thought, "Where is the top of our hutch?" But didn't think much of it.

Well sad news, when Brett's parents were helping us move, the hutch top flipped out of the truck they were driving and shattered to pieces. There was nothing they could do to fix it, because it was crushed into little shards of glass and splinters of wood. As a family, they waited to tell me until after boards as to not stress me out.

When they told me I was super bummed about the ordeal, especially because the hutch was wrapped/holding a lot of blankets that were special to us (like a few of Brett's baby blankets that his great grandma had made for him) and we lost all of them. Brett's parents felt so bad they offered to replace the hutch, but it has been super difficult finding one.

We originally thought someone could rebuild the top, but with all the glass in the last hutch, it would cost more to build then to just go buy a new hutch and buffet all together. So we tried finding one off Craigslist but there were not a ton of hutches listed. If we did find one, they were either way over priced or not what we were really looking for i.e. they weren't as nice as the last hutch so it was hard to pay money for something we weren't thrilled about.

We debated using KSL but then we would have to drive a hutch down again and didn't want to risk breaking another one. So that left us looking for a new one all together. Brett and I went almost every weekend looking for a hutch, but they were all WAY out of the price range of what the Burton's had wanted to pay.

Well finally this weekend we got a great deal on a hutch because of a Labor Day Sale. We really liked it and it had already been on sale because it was the managers pick of the month, and then with the weekend sale, we got an additional 25% off. The best part is is matches our TV stand and coffee table perfectly and we didn't even plan it. The price was right and it is awesome:

* The right hand light isn't on because it is missing a light bulb. We are going to go buy one tomorrow. Oh and mom you were right, it didn't fit where we wanted it to so now it is by the TV. Yeah for having a place to store things! I have now unloaded like 10 boxes and it has opened up so much room for our storage. I am glad the headache of replacing the hutch is now done!
