Salt Lake

After Valentines Day, we drove to Salt Lake Wednesday so I could pick up some continuing education classes at the Salt Palace.

Wednesday was a rough day though. My Uncle Barry had just recently been diagnosed with myeloma. My sister and I were going to visit him in the hospital as soon as Brett and I got into town to let him know we were thinking of him. But it did not work out, and my uncle passed away that Wednesday afternoon. It has been really difficult for my mom and our family, but I will post separately about this.

So anyways.... I thought I would post some of the happier things Brett and I did when we were in Salt Lake for my convention.

While I was in class Brett indexed all his names for young mens. Our ward has a goal to have all the young men and young women index a certain amount of names a piece so they can go on a big temple trip this spring. Since Brett is a leader he had to do it as well, but now he is ready to go!

We walked through temple square... Like my awesome badge I forgot to take off my coat?

We then got a tour through the Church Office Building. Brett's grandma and her husband have been serving a mission for the church for the last 10 years. They showed us their office, walked us through the tunnels under the temple and conference center and did a little tour of the buildings. It was so cool to see this side of the church and what makes it run. They bore their testimonies of the service work that the church provides, for welfare and humanitarian projects. We were seriously blown away by all the volunteers who work there.

Here we are in the waiting room. We also got to eat lunch with them at the cafeteria in the church office building between classes. We didn't see President Monson or his apostles while walking around. Maybe next time!

While we were in town, we got to hang out with these cuties.
Don't you love that Miss H is wearing my mom's shoes?

Here is my mom, confused I am taking a picture, and shoe less.

Other high lights of our trip were that Grandma and Ken took us to the Grand America for dinner as an early birthday present for Brett. We were quite embarrassed when they did valet parking for us in our little old Camry. I bet we really impressed them with our cracked windshield and food wrappers strewn about our entire car...There was so much going on this week between my classes, the funeral, and visiting with others. It felt like we didn't have a spare second, but it was nice to be surrounded by our family.
